Land and Spirit FAQ Sheet



What are the dates of the trip?

The tour begins Monday morning, March 5th and ends on the evening of Monday, March 12th.

The departure date from the U.S. is Sunday, March 4, 2018. The return date to the U.S. is Tuesday, March 13, 2018.


What is included in the cost of the trip?

a. Tours, Admission Fees
Guided educational tours of the sites, as well as entrance fees to all sites and activities on the itinerary are included.

The tour is uniquely designed with “options” days providing built in flexibility for a tailored experience based on the participants’ preferences submitted before the trip.

b. Hotel Accommodations
Seven nights at luxury hotels (see below).

c. Transportation
All ground transportation to all destinations on the tour throughout the trip (excluding Shabbat).

Ground transportation arrangements to and from the airport will be made for a group of ten participants or more arriving or departing at the same time. Ground transfers for those not travelling with a group of at least 9 other participants is not included.

d. VIP Airport Service (with group arrival)
Participants traveling with a group of ten or more will be met at the airport, whisked through customs and provided luggage transfer service directly to their hotel rooms.

e. Meals
The world-famous Israeli breakfast will be provided every day of the trip. Following is a schedule of Lunches and Dinners that are also included. During the meals provided by the tour, various programming will take place including addresses to the group by leading Israeli personalities. For the other meals, participants will be conveniently close to a choice of fine kosher restaurants and eateries.

f. Tips
Gratuity is not included in the price of the trip. Recommended tip per participant is $100 US to be divided between the guide, driver, hostess and group coordinator.


Which hotels will participants stay at?

Participants will spend the first two nights in Tel Aviv at the David Intercontinental or the Hilton Tel Aviv. JLI will assign participants to one of the hotels (cost is the same at both hotels). Groups will be accommodated together at the same facility.

For the latter five nights of the trip, we will be based in Jerusalem. Participants choose between accommodations at the David Citadel or the Waldorf Astoria when registering. (There is a difference in cost, see below).


What is the cost of the trip?

8 days, 7 nights, David Citadel as Jerusalem accommodation:

- Single Occupancy $4,274

8 days, 7 nights, Waldorf Astoria as Jerusalem accommodation:
- Double Occupancy $3,199
- Single Occupancy $4,624

How do I book airline tickets?

The Land and the Spirit - JLI has enlisted the services of Joy Travel to assist with travel to Israel. As one of the leading travel agencies in New York for travel to Israel, they have offered competitive rates from major U.S. airports. They can also handle all connections from smaller cities. How do the ‘Options Days’ work?

On four days of the trip, participants will choose from one of six tracks to join for the day. Tracks are designed around a theme such as Biblical sites, Food and Wine, Modern Israel, etc. Participants can join any track on any day for a multifaceted experience.

This unique feature of the trip will allow those returning to Israel the opportunity to see and explore new places, while those visiting Israel for the first time will be able to visit the primary, not-to-be-missed sites.

JLI or your group coordinator will communicate with you prior to the trip, to ascertain your preferences and create a tailored itinerary.


Can I register for the trip as an individual without a group?

While there will be various communities/groups joining the Land and Spirit from across America and beyond, we are happy to welcome and accommodate individual participants.


What about Travel Insurance?

Once you have registered for the trip, and booked your airline tickets, we strongly recommend the purchase of comprehensive travel insurance and supplemental medical insurance to help protect yourself from unforeseen circumstances including: Trip cancellation, interruption, and delay, baggage loss, emergency sickness or accident and more. Please note that most insurance policies of this type require purchase within 14 days of your date of registration for the trip.


I am planning to extend my stay before/after the tour, are you able to assist with arrangements?

Yes. On the online registration form is a checkbox requesting help with a trip extension. If you select the appropriate box, Israel Maven Tours, the tour and travel company assisting JLI with land arrangements in Israel, will contact you to provide you with information and assistance with hotel accommodations, land transport, guides and/or suggested activities.


What are terms of payment?

All prices and payments are in US dollars. A deposit of $500 per person will be charged upon registration. Full payment of the trip will be processed by December 1st, 2017.


Do you have payment plans?

For your convenience payment installment plans are available, providing full payment has been completed by January 2018. Please contact us for more information.


What is the cancellation policy?

  • Until November 1, 2017, no cancellation fee applies and your deposit will be fully refunded.
  • If notice of cancellation is received between November 1, 2017 and December 1, 2017, a $300 cancellation fee will apply. All other monies received will be refunded.
  • If notice of cancellation is received between December 2, 2017 and January 1, 2018, an $800 cancellation fee will apply. All other monies received will be refunded.
  • After January 1, 2018, no refund is available.
  • There is no refund for sites not visited or individual program events not participated in for any reason.


Is the trip kid-friendly?

Children and teens thoroughly enjoy the awesome, fun experiences and learn a great deal on the trip. With advice from your group leader, families may plan and select the more child-friendly tracks on the tour. Go to the registration page of this site to see the children’s rates.


I am coming by myself, but prefer the double occupancy rate, can I be assigned a roommate?

Yes. When registering, select 1 Adult with double occupancy. We will be in touch with you to arrange a suitable roommate. (Based on availability, not guaranteed).


Are there accommodations for people that have issues with mobility?

One of the advantages of the flexible nature of the tour is that it allows participants to choose options that have less walking and stairs. Discuss how much hiking and/or stairs you can handle with your group leader prior to the trip so it can be taken into consideration.


What is the weather in Israel at the time of the trip?

March is a beautiful time of year in Israel. Tel Aviv is pleasant, with temperatures averaging between 60 and 75 degrees F. Jerusalem is a few degrees cooler.


Is there a dress code? Any specific clothing suggested?

Comfortable clothing and footwear for walking is recommended. Include appropriate clothing and head coverings [i.e. yarmulkes, scarves] for visiting holy sites. We suggest slightly more formal attire, i.e. business casual for Shabbat and the Gala Banquet. A light jacket or sweater is recommended for after dark.


Which charities does the JLI Land and Spirit support?

The JLI Land and Spirit is not affiliated with any charities in Israel and there is absolutely no solicitation allowed on the trip. Participants seeking philanthropic opportunities may request suggestions from their group leader.
